5C Samsung Dishwasher Error Code

DIY

What does 5C mean?

United States

The dishwasher cannot drain (drain error).

United Kingdom

The control expects the water level to drop during draining but detects no change (drain fault).

Common causes

The manufacturer support page points to these conditions for this code:

  • A blocked or dirty filter
  • A kinked, bent, or pinched hose
  • A blocked, kinked, or incorrectly installed drain hose or standpipe
  • Debris or a blockage in the water path

What to check first

  1. Check the sink drain and garbage disposal for clogs (make sure the disposal cap is removed), check the drain hose is not kinked, pinched, or frozen and is installed with a high loop or air gap, run sink water for about 30 seconds to confirm the plumbing drains, and clean the filter and drain area.

Safety

  • Unplug the appliance before opening the filter, pump cover, or drain area, and expect water to come out.

When to call a professional

If the dishwasher still won’t drain after these checks, contact Samsung service.
