What does F9E1 mean?

The dishwasher is not draining. Whirlpool lists checks for the filter, drain hose, sink disposer, and air gap, then a power cycle.

Common causes

The manufacturer support page points to these conditions for this code:

  • A blocked or dirty filter
  • A kinked, bent, or pinched hose
  • A blocked, kinked, or incorrectly installed drain hose or standpipe
  • Debris or a blockage in the water path

What to check first

  1. Clean the filter thoroughly under running water;
  2. check the drain hose for kinks, pinches, or clogs from the back of the dishwasher to the sink;
  3. if connected to a disposer, make sure it is clear and the knockout plug was removed;
  4. clear the air gap if used;
  5. then power-cycle for 30 seconds.

Safety

  • Unplug the appliance before opening the filter, pump cover, or drain area, and expect water to come out.
