What to check first
These are the checks the manufacturer support page lists for each code. Brands word their checks differently, so they are shown per code.
Samsung 4C — 1 check
- Verify the water supply valve is open, the supply line is not kinked, frozen, or blocked, and that hot water temperature and pressure meet requirements (roughly 120-149°F and 20-120 psi).
Samsung 4C5 — 1 check
- Make sure the water supply to the machine has proper pressure, the tap is open, the hose is not kinked, and nothing is blocking water delivery.
LG IE — 5 checks
- Check that water flows from the kitchen and bathroom taps.
- Straighten any kinked, pinched, bent, or torn inlet hose.
- Open the water supply valve and the shut-off valve under the sink (turn counterclockwise).
- After recent plumbing work, confirm both valves are open.
- In winter, thaw a frozen hose by wrapping it in a warm wet towel.
Bosch E16 — 1 check
- Check the inlet hose for kinks or damage.
Bosch E18 — 4 checks
- Switch off and unplug the appliance;
- check the inlet and outlet hoses aren't trapped or kinked;
- disconnect the inlet hose, open the water supply into a bucket to confirm about 10 L/min flow, then reattach;
- remove and clean the detachable inlet-hose filter under the tap.
Whirlpool H2O — 3 checks
- Ensure the water supply valve to the dishwasher is turned on;
- check the water supply hose for kinks;
- once corrected, press Start so the dishwasher attempts to fill and resume the cycle.

When to call a professional
What the manufacturer support pages say about escalating each code.
- If the code persists after the checks above, contact Samsung service. Samsung 4C, Samsung 4C5
- If water is available everywhere and all valves are open but IE persists, a technician inspection (e.g., inlet valve/filter) is required - contact support or the installer. LG IE
- If the inlet hose is fine but the error persists. Bosch E16
- If the fault persists after the hose/filter checks, book an engineer. Bosch E18
- If the dishwasher still does not fill after checking the water supply, schedule service. Whirlpool H2O
Regional differences
These codes are described separately for the United States and the United Kingdom.
Samsung 4C
United States: The dishwasher is not getting water at the pressure or temperature it needs (water supply error).
United Kingdom: The cycle may start with a brief drain but little or no fresh water enters, leaving the tub dry and stopping the cycle (water supply fault).
LG IE
United States: Water inlet error: the water level stayed too low (insufficient water) 30 seconds to about 10 minutes after fill began, so the dishwasher alarms. Causes include a water outage, a kinked/pinched/torn inlet hose, a closed water valve, a clogged inlet valve filter, or very low water pressure.
United Kingdom: Water inlet error: the code appears when a specified amount of water is not supplied to the tub. Causes include a water outage, a bent inlet hose, or a closed water inlet valve.
